Author: Hazel Lee (She graduated from the University of Edinburgh in Msc Counselling Studies. A qualified counsellor of WelcomeHome.) Time flies at an alarming pace. Children always wish to grow up quickly and hope time would pass faster. Some people may complain they don't have enough time in the day, especially when they are facing a deadline. Some people may hope to have more time to do more things in their life. Some people feel regret that time passes too quickly and they have wasted a lot of time. There are some people that blame themselves for not spending enough time on themselves, but always on others. One minute contains sixty seconds, which is a fact that we can not change. We can not ask for the time to pass slowly. However, we can change our attitude towards spending time. Have you realised that people are always talking about the future and the past, and they seldom talk about the moment that they are living? Some unimportant things or their environment may distract people so that they forget to enjoy the moment that they are having right now. Imagine you are eating a tasty breakfast in a nice coffee shop, your phone suddenly beeps and you have a text from your friend. You naturally pick up your phone and reply to your friend immediately. After replying to your friend you notice that you finished the breakfast at the same time. People often use their left hand to pick up the phone and use their right hand to eat food. Some people may browser facebook or the Internet when they are eating breakfast. From a practical perspective this is a positive outcome to see that you can finish two things in a short time. However, maybe you easily forget what you ate and what is the taste of the food. Spending time on unimportant things also represents giving up your precious time. Don’t forget that you have the right to choose when to reply to your friend, you can reply or use your phone after enjoying your breakfast. Focusing on the moment when you are having breakfast, you might discover that there are many interesting things around you. Children are playing funny games, waitresses talking to customers, a man is reading newspaper, a couple is searching for a table and so on. Your mind would be connected to the moment, and your sight and feeling would establish a special experience or memory that would be saved in your heart. One day when you look back, you would still remember the moment vividly . Catching and living in the moment! Try to feel it, smell it, and even taste it. Some unexpected things could happened when you are focusing every single moment. Don’t let unimportant thing affect your heart, let your heart focus on your time.
